When Should You Get an EBT Heart Scan?

Simply put, any man in their 40’s and every woman in their 50’s should get a baseline EBT heart scan. This is the most definitive way to assess your current risk for heart disease. Other known risk factors may make it wise to get a baseline EBT scan at an earlier age:

• Family History
• Diabetes
• Hypertension
• Smoking
• High Cholesterol
• Metabolic Syndrome

“Good” Cholesterol Numbers Don’t Always Save Lives

One Patient’s Story
Lisa G. looked like a very healthy mother of two at age 49. Her cholesterol was low, “very good”, according to nationally accepted guidelines. Her blood pressure was perfect. She had a healthy lifestyle. Lisa was in training for the New York Marathon. Aside from family history, Lisa, herself, had zero risk factors for heart disease. No one would think to look for heart disease in Lisa G.

EBT Scan Saved Lisa’s Life Lisa had an EBT heart scan certificate that she purchased at a school fundraiser. Not to let it go to waste, she decided to use it. What she discovered was that her arteries were so clogged that only 3% of women her age had higher calcium scores.

Lisa was stunned. Her heart scan score was serious enough that she immediately went on medication and consulted a cardiologist. Further tests showed that Lisa had a 95% blockage in a major coronary artery and required 2 stents to open it. When you ask Lisa about the EBT heart scan she will usually tell you two things. First of all, she wishes she had had the scan earlier so that she might have been able to take steps to avoid heart surgery. Secondly, she will tell you that the EBT heart scan saved her life.

Front Range Preventive Imaging Saving Lives

If you are health conscious in any way, and have been reading the local media the past 4 years, it is very probable that you have heard of Front Range Preventive Imaging. It is the imaging center in Boulder located on the corner of Folsom and Valmont. It’s the spot where a lot of lives have been saved during those four years.

WHAT WE DO AT FRONT RANGE PREVENTIVE IMAGING
Simply put, we are in the business of saving lives through early diagnosis of disease. That early diagnosis is done by various state-of-the-art scanning procedures. We have technology and equipment that can scan pretty much everything from your head to your toes. What sets us apart, initially, is the pleasantness of the surroundings, promptness of the services, friendliness of our staff, and the fairness of the pricing. What really sets us apart is our technology.

THE EBT HEART SCAN
Front Range is one of only 2 centers in Colorado that uses the “electron beam tomography”, or EBT equipment, to determine your cardiac calcium burden, or, the amount of plaque in your heart. EBT heart imaging gives the most accurate and precise picture of where calcium is, if any, in your heart. It is the primary, powerful tool to identify your coronary risk.

VIRTUAL COLONOSCOPY
Virtual colonoscopy is an excellent alternative to conventional colonoscopy. Our advanced workstations create movies and images for the radiologist in either 2D or 3D after a simple inflation of the colon with CO2 gas. No scopes are involved and it requires an easier prep than a conventional or optical colonoscopy. 100% of the colon surface can potentially be visualized noninvasively. That makes this an ideal screening tool.

LUNG SCAN
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. This scan is highly recommended for finding early lung cancer in people who are over 45, have a past or present history of smoking. Our CT lung scan is able to detect lung cancers years before they might show on conventional chest x-rays. Front Range looks forward to seeing you and helping with your scanning needs. For screenings, you can come without a doctor referral. With a doctor’s referral, we will even file insurance forms for you.
